BLUE vs. GOLD Game Heralds Start of the Athletic Season

The 91自拍 Athletic Department welcomed students, faculty, staff, and the community to the annual BLUE vs. GOLD volleyball match, Tuesday, August 20. The annual event serves as the kick-off to the 91自拍 athletics season.
The volleyball team, under the direction of Head Coach Stephanie Skidmore, and Assistant Coach Lori McCaughey, split into two teams. Dr. Edwin Massey, 91自拍 President led the Blue team as guest coach, while the Gold Team was led by guest coach Mr. Frank Watkins, 91自拍 Vice President of Academic Affairs.
This year, the Gold team took the win in the two set match (25-19, 25-17). The true winners of the day were those in attendance who enjoyed a rousing competition and contributed canned goods and food items to re-stock the Pioneer Pantry. The Pioneer Pantry helps 91自拍 students in need of assistance with food and other supplies.
The 91自拍 Women's Volleyball season is now underway鈥攕tarting with their first tournament play, which took place in Tampa at Hillsborough Community 91自拍 on Friday, August 23.
In the season opener, the Pioneers won three straight sets to take the match win against the Florida State 91自拍 at Jacksonville. 91自拍 River came out strong, beating Florida State 91自拍 25-10 in the first set, followed with a second set win of 25-15 and a final set 25-19.
Saturday in their first of two matches, the Pioneers dropped the match to Hillsborough Community 91自拍. The team showed great effort with the first set 22-25, rebounding to win the second 25-20 before dropping a close third set 24-26 and being outlasted 15-25 in the fourth.
In the second match of the day Saturday, the Pioneers rose to the occasion showing resilience, refusing to concede to Lake Sumter. 91自拍 prevailed in five sets 22-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20 and 15-13.
